BLH represents the family of New York State Parole Officer Sandy Guardiola, who was killed on October 4, 2017 while in bed at her apartment. On October 28, 2017, the family spoke for the first time and called on Governor Andrew Cuomo and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to coordinate an independent investigation into her death.
Ms. Guardiola, a 48-year-old Puerto Rican mother of two, who twice survived breast cancer, was asleep when a Canandaigua police officer entered her home ostensibly on a “wellness check” requested by her employer. The police officer, Sergeant Scott Kadien, is also presently employed as an assistant district attorney for Wayne County. Ms. Guardiola was a 20-year-veteran law enforcement officer at the time she was shot and killed.
